Abstract
783,127. Heating air. MAIN, Ltd., R. & A. June 7, 1956 [May 25, 1955], No. 15140/55. Class 64(3) A gas fire of the kind in which burners 17 heat up refractory radiants 21 and the products of combustion are directed rearwardly to a chimney flue has a heat exchanger containing one or more passages for the products of combustion as they leave the radiants and a further passage or passages through which air from outside the gas fire is directed upwardly before flowing back into the atmosphere. The exchanger comprises a cast metal box structure having forward and rear walls 28, 26 provided on both surfaces with vertically - extending fins 33...36 and side walls 27, 29 secured together by bolts 32. Products of combustion pass through the box into a flue pipe 40 while air entering openings 47 passes upwardly between the fins 33, 36 and out into the atmosphere through openings 50. Air also enters openings 48 and recesses 43 and flows to the openings 50 via the burner chamber 9, passages 38, 37 and the space between the latter and the back plate 10 of the fire.
