[Class 126] [Also in Group XIII] Air supplied to the burner 13 or burners of a gas fire is preheated by being passed over surfaces 21 heated by flames or combustion products from the burner or burners. As shown, air for combustion passes from an inlet 25 through passages 26, 27 to the burner. A plate 21 separating the flue from these passages is provided with fins 22 or rods to facilitate the exchange of heat. Air can also pass behind the partition 19, above a division plate 14 with upwardly and downwardly projecting fins 23, and out through openings 28 in the canopy 24. In a modification, the passage for heating air supplied to the room is omitted, and the fins 22 may pass through the canopy, which replaces the plate 14, to radiate heat.
