Suitably proportioned holes in the plate and panel b restrict to a minimum the flow of combustion air to the space, so that combustion products after heating projections f on the back a enter the heat exchanger at maximum temperature. A forwardlyextending hood h above the panel guides combustion products through a horizontal passage g into the exchanger which consists of a chamber p through which extends an air passage q and which includes a passage r which intersects the air passage and leads to an outlet s and a relief passage t extending downwardly therefrom. Air to be heated enters the compartment containing the exchanger through a louvre m and apertures (not shown) in the base-plate of the compartment and then flows over the exterior surface of the exchanger and through the passage q to a louvre n leading into the room.
