Class 64(3) A convection air heating. device adapted to be positioned on the firebars of a domestic grate 2 comprises a castiron or fireclay container 1 in which a tortuous path for the air is provided by a transverse, relatively massive, heat transferring baffle 1b, the container inlet 5a for air to be heated being directed away from the fire and the heated air outlet 4 from the container being constricted to promote acceleration of air therefrom. In the form shown, two such containers are positioned, one at each side of the fire, the outlet from each container communicating with a tube 7 through which the heated air flows to apertures 8a in a smoke baffle 8 supported on the ends of the tubes 7 above the fire. According to the Provisional Specification, the air heating containers may be cast or moulded into the side cheeks of the fireplace.
