Abstract
416,348. Heating air. FARBRIDGE, J. R., Colombo Engineering Works, Colombo, Ceylon. Jan. 5, 1933, No. 430. Convention date, Jan. 11, 1932. [Class 64 (i).] In apparatus for heating air for drying or other purposes, the gases from a furnace 2 flow downwards over tubes 6, Figs. 3, 4, arranged on each side of the furnace and connected to air receiving and delivery chambers 12, 10, and then flow to the outlet through openings 14, which are graduated in size in accordance with their distances from the outlet to ensure a uniform distribution of the gases in the heater. The gases pass through transverse chambers 15 communicating at their rear end with a chamber 18 from which the gases are drawn by a fan or chimney. The total cross-sectional area of the apertures 14 is less than the cross-sectional area of the chamber 18. In a modification, horizontal tubes 33, Fig. 8, are open at one end and are connected to a hot air delivery chamber at the other end. The furnace gases after flowing downwardly over the tubes, escape through graduated openings 41 to a central chamber 43 leading to a chimney 46.
