Abstract
647,327. Gas-heating furnaces. AKT.- GES. FUR TECHNISCHE STUDIEN. Nov. 2, 1948, No. 28439. Convention date, Nov. 21, 1947. [Class 64(i)] A tubular gas heater, particularly for gas turbines, comprises a generally cylindrical casing a circular element 34 of which encloses a substantially cylindrical combustion chamber 36 communicating directly with a substantially cylindrical heating chamber arranged below the circular casing element, a system of heat exchange tubes 21 located in the heating chamber around a central unobstructed space, and two conical guide surfaces 38, 39 converging outwardly and overlapping opposite end portions of the tube system, so that the combustion products are compelled to flow outwardly mainly transversely of the tubes, through which the gas to be heated flows. A second system of tubes 20 may be provided for re-heating the gas after its first expansion in a turbine. The ports 34, 30 of the casing are detachable for access to and removal of the tubes. Flue gases may be returned to the combustion chamber. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the replacement of the wall of the combustion chamber 36 by upward extensions of the heating tubes, the upper ends of which are of hairpin shape. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
