Abstract
584,711. Heating water. HADEN & SONS, Ltd., G. N., and BRUCE, H. H. Jan. 2, 1945, No. 144. [Class 64 (i)] A hot water storage vessel 1 located higher than a boiler 5 is provided internally with a tube 2 extending through it from top to bottom, and a boiler smoke pipe 6 of smaller diameter than the tube 2 passes through and is spaced from the latter, so that some heat is transmitted from the flue gas across the space to the surrounding water. An asbestos or other sleeve 8 may be provided where the smoke pipe emerges from or enters the tube 2, or the space between the pipe 6 and tube 2 may be left open at the bottom and provided at the top with a closable vent so that some of the heat from the smoke pipe can be used for space heating. A section of the smoke pipe may be permanently carried in the tube 2, e.g., by lugs welded to the tube and pipe section. The vessel 1 is supported by legs 10, at least two of which are hollow and closed at their ends so as to form parts of the flow and return lines 11, 12.
