Abstract
643,389. Gas-heating furnaces. AKT.-GES. FUR TECHNISCHE STUDIEN. Dec. 30, 1947, No. 34716. Convention date, Jan. 28. [Class 64(i)] In a gas heater in which the gas flows through tubes over which hot gases from a combustion chamber 2 flow by convection, the tubes are grouped in nests of parallel tubes, each nest being surrounded by a jacket 6'. 6<SP>2</SP> through which the heating gases must flow in the direction of the length of the tubes, and the tubes in each nest being prevented, e.g. by a latticework 5<SP>1</SP>, from moving laterally relatively to their jacket without being rigidly connected to it. In the form shown, the limbs of nests of inverted U-shaped tubes are each surrounded by a jacket. The heating gases flow from the central combustion chamber 2, first upwardly through the jackets 6<SP>2</SP> to an annular chamber 4<SP>1</SP> formed by partitions 4, and then downwardly through the jackets 6<SP>1</SP> into an annular chamber formed by a partition 4<SP>2</SP>, to an outlet. Headers 9, 10 to which the ends of the tube nests are connected are joined to the inlet and outlet pipes 14, 16 by flexible pipes 11, 12 having arcuate parts to allow for relative expansion. The jackets 6<SP>1</SP>, 6<SP>2</SP> are supported from the partitions 4 by rings 5<SP>2</SP>, and may be telescopic. In a modification, the gas tube.s are straight, and each nest is surrounded by a single jacket, through which the hot gases flow upwardly to an annular chamber surrounding the upper parts of the tubes.
