The air or other fluid heater of the parent invention is modified in that the exhaust flues disposed around the combustion chamber are each divided by a partition 21 into two portions only, namely 2a, 2b, the hot combustion gases flowing first through the passes 2a which are disposed nearest the inlet 9b for fluid to be heated and then through the passes 2b which are further away from the fluid inlet 9b.
