Abstract

750,124. Feedwater heating systems; heating steam-boilers by waste gases. CHEMIEBAU, DR. A. ZIEREN GES. Nov. 8, 1951 [Nov. 10, 1950], No. 26227/51. Classes 64(1) and 123(2). Relates to apparatus for utilising the waste heat of a multiple-hearth furnace of the type having superposed hearths and a central hollow shaft carrying rabble arms, the shaft being cooled by an air stream passing upwardly within it. According to the invention, one or more groups of boiler tubes 4 are disposed immediately adjacent to the waste-gas outlet 2 from the furnace 3 and each group is fed by a feedwater heater 6 connected to a vertical extension 7 of the central hollow shaft of the furnace, each feedwater heater being disposed on top of the furnace. Valves 10 are provided in the flue 7 and in the side-tubes 8, 9, so that the amount of heat abstracted from the air-stream may be varied. To obviate condensation around the boiler tubes 4, a double flap-valve 5 is arranged at the junction of the branch-conduit with the main flue 2, this valve being also closable to a variable extent.
