806,049. Tubular heat exchangers. GREEN & SON, Ltd., E. Sept. 21, 1955 [Oct. 14, 1954], No. 29647/54. Class 64(3) In a tubular gas heater in which the gas to be heated flows through the tubes and a heating gas flows over the tubes, the tubes 1 are of elliptical or oval cross - section, the major axis of the section extending vertically and parallel to the direction of flow of the gas stream, and being at least three times the length of the minor axis. Internal fins 4 may be provided within each tube and external fins (not shown) may also be provided. The tube ends 3 may be enlarged to a box-shape, the box-like ends of adjacent tubes being bolted together to form a continuous wall which is said to permit relative expansion of the individual tubes. Specifications 779,600 and 802,573 [Group XXVIII] are referred to.
