Abstract

<PICT:0726443/III/1> In a fluid heater, e.g. for use in the conversion of hydrocarbon oil, a hollow bank of vertical tubes 16 in which the fluid is heated is arranged around the outer wall 11 of an annular combustion chamber 13, and combustion air flowing through a vertical passage 26 in the inner wall 49 of the combustion chamber 13 is heated by radiant heat from combustion gases in that chamber. Combustion air flows upwardly through a central conduit 40, between flue tubes 32 arranged in an annular nest with transverse baffles 34, downwardly through a passage 48, to a box 53 supplying burners 15. The fluid to be heated flows upwardly through the tubes 16. The combustion gases leaving the chamber 13 flow through insulated sleeves 21 surrounding the upper parts of the tubes 16, through passages 29, 30 and through the air-heating tubes 32. U.S.A. Specification 2,592,608 is referred to.
