Class 64(1) An air heater comprises an inner heater 1 and a jacket 2 separated by an air passage 3, and a heat exchanger comprising three or more vertical coaxial tubes 13...16 and co-operating baffles which form alternating coaxial hot gas and air passages. The innermost and outermost tubes 13, 14 form continuations of the heater 1 and jacket 2. Baffles 21, 24 and a connecting part divide the central and annular hot gas passages and radial connecting passages 25 between them each into two parts. The baffle 24 has a gap 26. Hot gases from the heater 1 flow back and forth through these divided passages before reaching the chimney outlet 28. Horizontal baffles may be provided in the air space between the tubes 13 and 15.
