An air heater comprises a casing A through which the air to be heated passes, vertical tubes B located in the casing and provided with external radial gills b and internal spiral baffles b<SP>1</SP>, and a corresponding number of gas burners d arranged in a chamber A<SP>1</SP> below the tubes so that the hot gases from the burners pass upwards through the tubes to an outlet duct (not shown) at the top of the casing A. The vertical tubes B are arranged in rows and vertical baffle plates a<SP>3</SP> fill the spaces between the ends of the rows and the casing. A burner tube D is located below each row of tubes B. A fan blows air through the casing A.
