Abstract

In a boiler comprising concentric walls 5, 6 formed by coiled tubes and defining annular passages through which the flue gases flow from the combustion space 10, the boiler is formed of separate sections 2 joined together, each section comprising a portion of the outer wall and a section of the walls 5, 6. The tubes in the walls 5, 6 may be connected in series, the outer wall portion in each section being connected to the inner wall portion and the outlet pipe of the tubes in each section connected to the inlet pipe of the tubes in the adjacent section. Alternatively the tubes in each section may be connected in parallel, the inlet to the tubes in each section being connected to a common inlet manifold and the outlet to a common outlet manifold. The ends of the combustion space are closed by ceramic walls 11, 12, with a burner mounted at 13, and superheater tubes 8 may be mounted in one of the annular flues. Each section 2 may be provided with support members 18.
