Abstract

1314767 Steam generators; water heaters SULZER BROS Ltd 3 May 1971 [8 May 1970] 12742/71 Heading F4A A heat exchanger, particularly for heating water or making steam, comprises two tube systems for the heat exchange fluid, one system having a plurality of nested concentric tube cylinders 4-9 each consisting of a helical coiled tube, and the other system being formed as a skeleton of tubes which extend between and space each adjacent pair of tube cylinders and cross the tubes thereof. The helical tubes are connected between one of four lower distributers 31-34 and a corresponding one of four upper headers 36, 37 (38, 39) Fig. 2 (not shown). The second tube system comprises a skeleton of four radially disposed sets of vertical tubes 11-20 also connected between the distributers and the headers. Alternatively the tubes of the second system may be connected in series with those of the first system and upstream thereof. The tubes of the skeleton may be coiled helically instead of being rectilinear, and wound in the opposite direction to those of the tube cylinders. The inner tube cylinder 4 consists of three closecoiled helices forming a flue for gas produced by a swirl type muffle burner 45 fed with gaseous or liquid fuel. A flue throttle 44 with aperture 48 is provided. The exchanger is enclosed in a sealed casing 40 formed by a wall of helical tubes 41, 42 connected to two of the headers. A flue gas duct 43 leads to a chimney. The exchanger may be disposed horizontally.
