Abstract
1343446 Air heating stoves; gas burners; GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 14 June 1971 [18 June 1970] 27735/71 Headings F4S and F4T In a gas fired space heater comprising a plurality of finned heat exchange tubes 43 extending between headers 42 and 44 and through which combustion gases from a burner unit 23 pass upwardly, air is circulated from a space 13 over the heat exchange tubes 43 and then back into the space 13 by a blower 24 which together with the tubes 43 and burner unit 23 is housed in a cabinet 16; ducts 11 and 12 communicate the cabinet with the space 13 to be heated. Turbulence promotors 48 are provided in the upper ends of the tubes 43. The burner unit 23 includes a horizontal trough 25 having vertical side walls 26, 27 provided with primary and secondary combustion air inlet apertures 28 and 29 respectively, the air being supplied by a blower 30 through a conduit 33. A horizontally disposed gas supply conduit 35 extending longitudinally through the trough and connected via a control valve 37 to a source of fuel gas has spaced inlet apertures 36. The fuelair mixture is ignited by a spark plug 39. In a modified embodiment (Figs. 4-7, not shown) the trough 25 is replaced by a series of vertical flame tubes (25a) each connected to a respective one of the heat exchange tubes and comprising primary and secondary air inlet apertures (28a and 29a), and a lower fuel gas inlet aperture (28a) which communicates via a conduit (36b) with a fuel supply conduit (35a). The primary air inlet apertures (28a) are tangentially directed and are disposed around the lower end of each flame tube while the secondary air inlet apertues (29a) are radially directed and are located around the upper end; adjacent flame tubes are interconnected by axially aligned horizontal tubes (39b).
