Abstract

1338912 Balanced flue heaters; air heating stove T B MORLEY & CO Ltd and L T MINCHIN 9 Nov 1971 [18 Aug 1970] 39669/70 Headings F4W and F4S A gas or liquid fuel fired space heater drawing air from a free space below the heater has an insulated combustion chamber 1 and a multiplicity of ducts 3 carrying the flue gases downwards to be vented adjacent the air inlet. The combustion chamber 1 is lined with ceramic fibre and coated with asbestos, and swivel ducts 3 lead from the top of the combustion chamber at each side. The ducts 3 have fins 5 to increase heat transfer to air entering the casing at grilles 6 and exiting at the top. Heat shields of polished metal 8 decrease heat transfer between the combustion chamber 1 and ducts 3 by radiation. The ends of ducts 3 project through the floor and are surrounded by a shield 4 surrounding the air inlet duct 11. The bottom of the air inlet duct has baffles 10, and louvres 13 in the shield 4 allow facer draught during lighting up. Air may be drawn through the casing by a fan. The downward ducts 3 may be arranged to heat a liquid.
