Abstract
1,227,306. Heat recuperators. OWENSCORNING FIBERGLAS CORP. 13 Jan., 1970 [15 Jan., 1969], No. 1635/70. Heading F4S. In a heat recuperator comprising inner and outer metal cylindrical shells 10, 12 defining therebetween a passageway for combustion air which is heated by exhaust gases flowing through the inner shell 10, a plurality of spacing means 50 in the form of pairs of interengageable coupling members 51, 52 are provided to control the size of the passageway within a predetermined range while accommodating relative movement of the inner and outer shells due to differential expansion. As shown each coupling member comprises a hook element 51 attached to the inner shell and a U-shaped receiving bracket 52 attached to the outer shell. In a modified embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown) the hook receiving bracket (53) is open at one side. The hook elements 51 are arranged in circumferentially extending rows. The rows may be divided into a plurality of zones (see Fig. 2) and the dimensions of the hook and hook-receiving elements may be varied from zone to zone to accommodate differing amounts of expansion and contraction. Combustion air supplied by a blower 24 enters the passageway via inlet chamber 18 and leaves via outlet chamber 20. Expansion bellows 14 ensure a seal between inlet chamber 18 and the passageway while permitting relative axial expansion between the inner and outer shells.
