1479878 Gas heating stoves HEAT RESEARCH CORP 7 May 1976 18917/76 Heading F4S In a gas heater in which the gas is heated by one or burners 36, an annular flow space 15 for the gas being heated (e.g. air) is formed between an outer shell 12 and an inner shell 13, the inner shell being fixedly supported (by means not shown) at a position axially spaced from one end of the outer shell (i.e. adjacent either end or anywhere along its length) and being resiliently supported at one or more positions axially remote from the fixed support, by bellows members such as 24, 26 located at either end or (as shown) at both ends of the outer shell. In use the radiant heating zone 35 will vary in axial extent according to the intensity of heating utilized. In the convection zone the burner gases are channelled by a baffle 37 over longitudinal fins 41 projecting inwardly from the wall of the inner shell 13. Fins are also provided on the outer wall surface of the shell 13 and these may be longitudinal (as shown) helical (Figs. 2 and 4) or they may comprise pin fins (Figs. 3 and 5). The wall of the outer shell- 12 may be covered either internally or externally with a heat-insulating refractory material. The heating and heated gases may pass through the apparatus in countercurrent (as shown) or in cocurrent. The respective flow spaces 14 and 15 for the heating and heated gas may operate at substantially similar pressures to reduce wall thickness requirements of the shell 13.
