Abstract

778,831. Regulating thickness of textile slivers. CALZONE, F. July 14, 1955 [July 22, 1954], No. 20444/55. Class 120 (2). A device for adjusting sliver thickness in spinning machines includes a pair of measuring rollers interposed between feed and delivery rollers and which act, as a result of variations in thickness of the sliver, to vary the speed of the feed rollers through hydraulic mechanism. Variations in thickness of the sliver N cause a beam 16 to oscillate thereby inducing fluid to flow between a chamber 19 and a cylinder 21. Corresponding movements of a plunger 22 occur, which are transmitted through a pivot 24 to a rod 8 that is reciprocated by a cam 5 which is fixed to the shaft of the lower delivery roller and oscillates an arm 10 to drive the lower feed roller 2 through ratchet mechanism 12. Downward movement of the plunger 22 results in an increase in the effective length of the arm 10. The control mechanism is duplicated on each side of the rollers. Instead of the ratchet mechanism 12, a friction clutch may be employed.
