727,823. Combing machines. T. M. M. (RESEARCH), Ltd. Oct. 7, 1953 [Oct. 14, 1952], No. 25728/52. Class 120(1). A rectilinear type combing machine has a nipper assembly 8, 9 suspended from a fixed pivot 28, a rocking shaft 22 located above the cylinder 2 and a connection between the shaft 22 and the nipper assembly 8, 9 to impart positive alternate advancing and retracting motions to the assembly 8, 9. Each of a pair of levers 24 fixed to the shaft 22 is connected by an adjustable link 25 to an arm 26 of a bellcrank lever 26, 27 which is pivoted at 28 and the other arm of which supports the pivot shaft 21 of the lower nipper frame 20. Adjustment of the nipper movement is effected by varying the length of the link 25. The only dead weight supported by the rocking shaft 22 is that of the top comb 10.
