Combing-machines.- In a combing-machine of the Heilmann, Naswith, or like type the holding-nippers K, K<1>, Fig. 5, comprise a lower jaw K'. which is concentric with and oscillating about the cylinder shaft E and has a vertical front edge k<4>. The upper jaw K comprises an angular plate with an horizontal portion k<6> and a vertical portion k<3> adapted to engage with and nip the fibres against the front edge k' of the lower jaw. The frame M carrying the nippers is centred on the comb shaft E, which rocks a shaft O carrying an arm o and a yoke o<1> connected to the frame M. The arm P<1> is adjustable on the shaft 0, through a setting arm P<2> and the link p, between the arm P<1> on the shaft O and the eccentric P is adjustable in a slot P<1> concentric with the eccentric. The upper jaw K is pivoted at R<1> in levers R carried by the frame M and is controlled by a spring S. Movement is imparted to it through a cam e<3> on the shaft E engaging a bowl on the trail lever R which is pivoted on a shaft L carried in the frame M. In opening the nipper the jaw K is first moved horizontally away from the jaw K<1> until the levers R contact with set screws k<5> carried by the nipper arms k and then vertically. In closing the movement is vertical until the set screws k<2> engage the lower nipper plate K<1> and then horizontal under the action of the spring S. The lower feed roller N is carried by arms n pivoted on the shaft L and is pressed against the upper roller N' by a spring S'. The upper roller N is rotated by a ratchet T and a pawl t operated by a lever T<1> engaging an inclined surface t<2> adjustably fixed on the bearings of the shaft E. The top-comb G is carried by arms g centred at R' and concentric with the shaft E. The arms g are set by screws g', g<2> bearing respectively on the shaft L and the upper feed roller N. The comb is adjustable along the arms g and is secured by bolts g<3>. The topcomb may be constructed as described in Specification 5130/15. The detaching may be accomplished by nippers as described in Specification 247,332.
