Abstract

755,403. Fibre drafting mechanism. WHITIN MACHINE WORKS. Nov. 25, 1954 [March 19, 1954], No. 34226/54. Class 120 (2). Drafting mechanism has means for simultaneously moving all the back roller bearing blocks transversely of the roller axis, the means comprising interengaging rack bars. Back rollers 20 are mounted in bearing blocks 21 slidable on the top member 22 of a bracket 10 slotted at 23 to receive rack bars 25 secured by bolts 27 to the bearing blocks 21. On the lower face of each rack bar 25 are inclined teeth 33 that mesh with teeth 32 of an operating bar 31 which is preferably given a mechanical advantage over the other rack bars of two to one and extends along the full length of the drawing frame. At an end of the frame, a manually rotatable screwed shaft is arranged to transmit longitudinal movement to the operating bar 31.
