Class 120(2) A drafting field is divided into sections by supports carrying aligned shaft sections over which drafting aprons pass and each apron, which serves at least two spindles, is so mounted that it may be removed from operative position along with its associated shaft section. In one preferred form, Fig. 5, the aprons 1 extend from one support 4 to another and are supported by plates 5, shaft sections 3 and guide rollers 6. A positive drive for the aprons may be provided, such as by forming teeth on their inner surfaces and on the shaft sections 3. Alternatively, the aprons 1, or the shaft sections 3, or both, may be provided with roughened or fluted surfaces for frictional driving. In modifications in which aprons 1 are formed with inwardly turned flanges, the shaft sections 3 and guide rollers 6 may have grooves to receive the flanges. For the better control of the fibres, the drafting surfaces of the aprons may be roughened or corrugated. Insertions of strengthening materials may be made in the aprons, as at 22, Fig. 9, and the aprons may be coloured to contrast with the fibres being drafted. Shaft sections 3 may be coupled together and plates 5 associated above the supports 4, Fig. 5. The front guide for each apron, which may either be a roller 6 or a non-rotatable member 7, may be supported by an adjustable screwthreaded rod 12, Figs. 5 and 7, or a spring- urged rod 15 or 20, Figs. 8 and 9. In order that the adjacent parts of an apron may be deflected should laps be formed on a front drafting roller, the plate 5 may be pivoted, as at 18, Fig. 8, or the guide roller 6 may be pivoted, as at 21, Fig. 9.
