Abstract

678,288. Drafting textile fibres. AMBLER SUPERDRAFT, Ltd. June 23, 1950 [June 29, 1949], No. 17153/49. Addition to 671,633: Class 120(ii) The method of and apparatus for drafting textile fibres as claimed in the parent Specification is modified by the employment of urging means including means other than rollers. A roving 11 is passed to drafting rollers 14 through a guide 12 and an intermediate urging device 13, which may consist of a lower belt 17, Figs. 1 and 3, two side belts 19, mounted on pairs of vertical flanged rollers 21, and an upper roller 22 arranged to run between the inner laps of the belts 19. In a modification shown in Fig. 4, the roving 11 passes between upper and lower belts 24, 26, both belts passing between the flanges of a roller 27. Instead of the upper belt 24, a roller may be used and pass between the flanges of the roller 27. A further modification, Fig. 8, has a lower belt 32 which is passed through a deflecting element 34 causing it to assume a U-shape. A roller 36 presses upon the roving 11 when confined within the deflected belt 32. In another modification, a pair of belts extend over flanged rollers and each belt is formed with a V-groove, so that the opposed grooves press the roving into a diamond shape. In another form, a belt is formed with a peripheral groove and another belt or a roller fits closely in the groove. The component members of the urging device are positively driven at a peripheral speed slightly in excess of the speed at which the roving is fed forwards.
