Abstract
497,276. Sliver-guides. WHITIN MACHINE WORKS. June 15, 1937, No. 16616. Convention date, July 31, 1936. [Class 120 (i)] A sliver-guide for use in drafting sliver into roving comprises a guiding conductor 8, Figs. 1 and 3, between two groups of drafting rollers which receives the flattened strand from the first group and gradually turns it through 90‹ to the vertical edgewise position and directs it in such form close into the bite of the rollers or aprons of the second group. The guide 8 comprises a plate having a skew surface and carried on a traverse bar 9, a second plate 10 being mounted adjacent to the plate 8 so as to form therewith a convergent crevice by which the strand is supported in its vertical edgewise position. The plates 8, 10 are pointed at 11 so as to guide the sliver right into the nip of the rollers 3 or aprons 5. The plate 10 is mounted on a set screw 13, or the plates 8, 10 may be mounted on companion traverse bars 9, 14 relatively adjustable at 14a, Fig. 4.
