Abstract

805,794. Rectilinear-motion bearings.. ULVSUNDA VERKSTADER A.B. April 6, 1956 [April 7, 1955], No. 10589/56. Class 12 (1). [Also in Group XXII] A machine slide 12 is supported for rectilinearmotion on a machine frame 10 by two bearings, each of which comprises a rod 14 which bears against surfaces 26, 28 on the slide 12 and balls 46, 48 located between the rod 14 and a partcylindrical surface 40 on a member 41 attached to the machine frame 10. The balls 46, 48 run in grooves 42, 44 in the rod 14, the surfaces of the grooves lying tangential to an arc 49 centred at a point 20 forming the centre of the cylindrical surface 40. The rod 14 has a cylindrical surface 16 centred at a point 18 offset from the point 20 so that rotation of the rod 14 causes vertical and lateral displacement of the surfaces 26, 28 respectively of the slide 12. Limited rotation of the rod 14 is effected by adjustment of screws 54 and 58 acting on opposite sides of a pin 50 secured to the rod 14. The balls 46 and 48 are inserted in a common retainer 62 which includes a gear wheel 66 mounted on a pin 64 and having its teeth engaging straight toothed racks provided on the rod 14 and stationary member 41. In a modification, rollers replace the balls 46, 48. In a further modification, shown in Fig. 4, the rod 14 has a surface comprising two partcylindrical surfaces 16, 19 centred at offset points 18, 20, respectively. Rollers 72, 74 are located between the rod 14 and cylindrical rods 73, 75 disposed in a recess 76 in the slide 12.
