Abstract
27,304. Eves, J. V. Dec. 6. Drawing-frames; gill boxes and frames.-Apparatus for drawing flax, wool, and other long staple fibres, in which the amount of draft between the drawing-rollers and the retaining - rollers is adjusted automatically with any change of thickness of material passing through the retaining-rollers, is constructed with mechanism which will delay the change of speed of the drawing-rollers until the material that caused the displacement of the retaining - rollers has moved forward to, or nearly to, the nip of the drawing-rollers. Levers C, C<1>, Fig. 2, rest on the journals of the top retaining-roller B and are connected through a lever E and link F to a weighted lever G, which stretches forward under the machine and engages at its end with a bell-crank lever J. A wheel N at the side of the machine, driven from the shaft of the retaining - roller A, carries a number of pegs n adapted to slide through holes in the wheel. The position of the pegs relatively to the wheel is governed by a pivoted shoe M<1> connected through a link M to the lever J. The pegs carried round by the wheel engage (after the necessary lapse of time, regulated by the speed of the wheel) a second shoe O connected through links O<2>, O<4> and a lever O<3> with the belt-fork O<7>. The pegs n are locked in their adjusted position by wheels M<2>, M<3> the grooved peripheries of which engage similarly grooved portions of the pegs. The wheels M<2>, M<3> are carried at the ends of weighted levers. The drawing-rollers are driven through a differential gear box P' from the cone pulley P'. To assist in moving the belt-fork, a relay motion may be inserted between the lever O<3> and the belt-fork. This comprises a pair of racks V, V<1>, Fig. 3, connected with the belt-fork, a pair of pawls u, u<1> rapidly oscillated by an eccentric U, and a pair of arms t, t' which are carried by a lever T and normally hold the pawls out of contact with the racks. If the lever T is tilted by a movement of the link R, one of the pawls is allowed to engage the corresponding rack and move it tooth by tooth, and with it the belt-fork. According to the Provisional Specification, a chain with the pegs sliding on the links can be substituted for the wheel,
