Abstract

1,132,095. Fluted rollers; stop motions. MAREMONT CORP. 6 Oct., 1965 [7 Oct., 1964], No. 28795/68. Divided out of 1,132,093. Heading DID. In a textile processing machine, drafting mechanism is preceded by fluted calender roll means which comprises a driving-roll, first and second driven rolls, which mesh with the driving roll and are in radially spaced locations about its axis, and means for controlling the depth to which the driven rolls mesh with the driving roll, the depth in the case of the second driven roll being greater than that in the case of the first driven roll. The machine is as is described in Specification 1,132,093, and includes, in addition to the calendering rolls at 90, Fig. I drafting rolls at 20, means 136, 138, for controlling the material between the two sets of rolls, an auxiliary drive for driving the lower front roll of the drafting mechanism, and stop motions effective in the event of laps on the drafting and calendering rolls, and movement of the control means 136. The calender rolls comprise a driving-rolls 92 Fig. 3, and first and second driven rolls 94, 96. The driven rolls are loaded by levers 102 pivoted at 100 and each spring loaded at one end 106, by a spring cylinder 104 between the two ends. The depth to which the rolls 92, 94 mesh with the driving-roll is controlled by a disc 120 on the shaft of the driving roll (Fig. 5) which is engaged by similar discs, e.g. -122, on the shaft of each of the driven rolls. For a sliver .025" thick and necessitating a spacing of this distance between the second roll and the driving roll, the spacing between the first and the driving rolls is .035". The calendering rolls change the direction of material issuing from the drafting rolls through a right angle, thereby facilitating its collection. Stop motion. The end 106 Fig. 4 of each loading lever 102 has an inturned part 108 with an adjustable screw 110 engaging the plunger of a switch 114 so that when a lap occurs on the corresponding roller the part 108 is displaced to operate the switch and render the machine operative. Movement of the end 106 in the opposite direction is limited by an adjustable screw 116, to protect the switch and facilitating insertion of the rolls 94, 96.
