Abstract

1,132,094. Driving means for drafting apparatus; stop motions. MAREMONT CORP. 6 Oct., 1965 [7 Oct., 1964], No. 28775/68. Divided out of 1,132,093. Heading DID. In a textile processing machine comprising drafting mechanism having a number of pairs of rolls arranged in series, primary and auxiliary means are provided to drive the drafting mechanism respectively at normal and reduced speeds, the primary means being disengageable, e.g. when a stop-motion senses a lap on one of the rolls. The processing machine is of the form described in Specification 1,132,093 which includes a stop motion associated with each roller, adapted to stop the machine when a lap occurs. The driven roller 22 of the drafting mechanism is normally connected by gearing to a prime mover. It also has a shaft 150 coupled through an over-running clutch 152 to an auxiliary motor 154 controlled by start and stop switches 156. When the primemover is de-energised, it is disconnected from the drafting mechanism, which can then be driven slowly by the motor 154. The slow rotation of the rolls facilitates piecing-up, and the elimination of slack accumulating in the material between the cards and the drafting mechanism, when the carding machine and the mechanism are stopped, resulting from the motion of the carding machine.
