Abstract

777,549. Suction cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd. Sept. 29, 1955 [Oct. 8, 1954], No. 27784/55. Addition to 767,647. Class 8(1) In a suction cleaner of the motor-fan canister type and comprising means 42 for restricting the fan exhaust, a socket 44 for passing the so pressurized air into an air cushion space bounded by the underside 42 of the cleaner casing 1, the carpet 45 and a closed skirt-like barrier member 52, 53 having its out-turned base 54 spaced above the carpet 45 to provide one or more restricted air outlets, one or more carpet contacting members e.g. a skid 60 are provided capable of supporting the weight of the cleaner and which are fixed relative to and extend slightly below the air restricting base 54 of the barrier member 52, 53. As shown a single annular skid 60 is integral with the air restricting portion 54 of the skirt 52, 53 and extends at least 15 thousandths of an inch below it and from which the skid is spaced laterally by a plurality of webs 57 between which escaping air passes to a sound absorbing chamber and outlets 63.
