Abstract

384,501. Vacuum cleaners. ELECTROLUX, Ltd., 153, Regent Street, London.- (Assignees of Inventia Patent- Verwertungs- Ges. ; 10, Herrenacker, Schaffhausen, Switzer. land.) March 7, 1932, No. 6792. Convention date, March 7, 1931. [Class 8 (i).] The exhaust from a vacuum cleaner is discharged in a diffused manner from upwardly directed peripheral openings 22, Fig. 2, which may be covered with cloth. An annular space below the fan, formed between the outer casing and an inner cylinder 17, is divided into two tapering chambers 18, 21 by a helical wall 14. The fan discharges into the chamber 18, from which the exhaust passes to the chamber 21. When the apparatus is used for blowing, a valve 24, Figs. 2 and 3, is pressed back by the inserted hose 37, which is secured by a catch 36, carried by a spring 38 and engaging a groove 35. The valve 24 is pivoted on a spindle 25 and is acted on by a spring 29. The hose engages a plate 31, pivoted on the spindle 25, and accommodated in a slot in the valve. A spring 34 is disposed between the valve and a lug 32 on the plate 31.
