Abstract

884,011. Hair-drying appliances. SUNBEAM CORPORATION. March 17, 1958 [April 17, 1957], No. 20031/61. Divided out of 884,010. Class 81 (2). A portable unit for supplying heated air to a hair-drying cap comprises a fan and driving motor assembled in a casing with heating means in the air outlet and provided with a switch which selectively controls the motor either alone or together with the heating means. The air supply unit comprises a casing 40 enclosing a motor 51 mounted with its shaft vertical and carrying a double fan assembly 71 at the lower end of its armature shaft. The upper fan section 71b draws air, for cooling the motor, through apertures in the top of the casing and expels it through lateral apertures 46, while the lower section 71c draws air in through a central opening 79 in the base and drives it over a heating resistance assembly 85 to a tangential outlet to which a flexible hose, joined to the hood, is connected. The control switch is actuated by a knob 48 the stem of which carries a contact plate 103 suitably profiled for co-operation with fixed contact fingers. This provides an " off " position, a second position in which the motor only is energized, and three further positions giving three degrees of heating by using a low power heater, a high power heater or both simultaneously.
