866,273. Gas burners. ADAMS, J. K. May 15, 1959 [June 17, 1958; Nov. 13, 1958], Nos. 19272/58 and 36608/58. Class 75(1). [Also in Group XIII] A gas burner, Fig. 3, for an air heater, Fig. 2, comprises a bowl shaped inlet 25 leading to a duct 26 and a plurality of gas discharge axially spaced outlets encircling the periphery of the burner and adapted to form an annular sheet of flame of substantial depth. The discharge outlets are formed by an assembly 31 of annular plane and radially corrugated plates arranged alternately. The outer end of the assembly is closed by a plate 32, and two annular plates 29 are mounted at the inlet to the assembly and support a conical deflector 30. Gas is supplied by a jet 14 to mix with air entering the bowl shaped inlet 25. Vanes 33 around the burner body reduce air turbulence. The gas burner is mounted within the' bottle shaped casing 1 of the air heater downstream of a fan 7 driven by an electric motor 6. A guide ring 12 surrounding the inlet end of the burner concentrates the airstream on to the burner flame. The burner is ignited by a pilot burner 16 itself ignited by an electric incandescent element energised by a press button on a control panel on the casing 1. The supply of gas to the main and pilot burners is controlled by a manuallyopened electromagnetic valve 35 held in open position by a current generated by a thermocouple heated by the pilot burner. A thermostat 37 closes the electromagnetic gas valve when the temperature within the heater becomes excessive. The inlet end of the casing 1 is covered by a wire gauze and the outlet end contains vanes 18 to reduce circulatory motion of the air stream. The casing 1 is mounted on a pair of wheels and has a loop handle 5.
