Abstract
1,047,630. Oil burners. O. GOLDMANN, O. HIMSTEDT, and E. SCHWARZE. Nov. 25, 1963 [Nov. 23, 1962], No. 46509/63. Heading F4T. In a liquid fuel burner comprising a highpressure nozzle 19 injecting fuel into the Venturishaped entrance to a mixing chamber 10, hot waste gas and air are supplied to the intake side of a blower 7 and the mixture of waste gas and air is delivered with a rotating movement to the narrowest portion of the Venturi. The cone angle of the Venturi is larger than the spray cone of the fuel. The mixing chamber 10 is mounted inside a trough 3 and has an outlet 10<SP>1</SP> remote from the Venturi through which the fuel/air/waste gas mixture enters the trough 3. The latter is closed by a screen 4 above which the mixture burns. The waste gases are sucked by the blower through channels 5<SP>11</SP> formed between the trough 3 and the walls of the burner housing 1. Fresh air enters the blower through a pipe 8 having an adjustable throttle 9. The blower is driven by a motor 23 having a hollow drive-shaft provided with radial air intake openings 26. The motor also drives a fuel pump 27. The output of the blower is delivered to a narrowing spiral channel 21, surrounding a shell 15 surrounding the fuel nozzle 19 and having a conical front portion forming with the Venturi an annular slot 16 which can be adjusted by moving the shell 15 axially by means of its threaded connection with an end piece 14 of the mixing chamber 10. Cold air is sucked in through the shell 15 and cools the fuel nozzle. At starting the motor and an air heating resistance in the channel 21 are switched on. A solenoid fuel valve 28<SP>1</SP> is closed so that air only is delivered to the mixing chamber. When the air reaches a temperature of 250 C. a thermostat in the channel 21 actuates a relay to switch off the heating resistance and to open the solenoid valve 28<SP>1</SP>. The mixture of fuel and air is ignited by an electric device 31. In an alternative method of starting, the fuel air mixture is ignited for a short heating up period in the mixing chamber. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the blower has a double-faced fan wheel discharging into a common outlet, a fresh air intake being provided on the drive side of the wheel and a waste gas intake on the other side of the wheel.
