Abstract

1319361 Liquefied gas burners RONSON CORP 5 June 1970 [23 June 1969] 27415/70 Heading F4T A portable cooking device comprises a reservoir 10, 14, for liquefied hydrocarbon fuel gas, connected by a passageway to a fuel burner mounted on the reservoir, the passageway including a valve comprising a tapered needle 29 movable in a Venturi nozzle 26 to control the flow of gaseous fuel into a mixing chamber 20; air flows to the chamber via an inlet 43, the size of this inlet and also the gas valve being controlled simultaneously to increase or decrease the flow of both air and gas to the mixing chamber 20 so as to maintain a stable flame. The tapered needle 29 is loosely mounted at one end of a shaft 28, the other end of which is secured in a knob 34. Integral with the shaft is a threaded portion 31, so that rotation of the knob 34 causes the shaft to move to the right, opening the valve. Simultaneously a barrel 32, also integral with the shaft bears on ribs 37 provided on a handle 34, moving the handle and thus widening the air inlet 43. The air/gas mixture flows from the chamber 20 via an outlet bore 21, to the burner which comprises a burner head 52 having openings 57. The burner head seats in an insulator 48 mounted in a reflector 44, the reflector fitting into a ceramic insulator 46 which is pressed into a socket in the reservoir. The insulator 46 prevents heat flowing from the burner to the reservoir.
