Abstract

1461088 Air heating apparatus; burners SHARP KK 3 Jan 1974 00251/74 Headings F4W F4S and F4T A heating apparatus, e.g. a hot-air room heater, comprises a combustion chamber 10, an air-flow guide unit 8 and a blower 6 for forcing air into the unit 8 via a first inlet 64, Fig. 5, the air guide providing a first flow path bypassing the combustion chamber and passing directly to a first outlet 12, a second flow path from the combustion chamber via a second inlet 68 to the first outlet 12 so that the combustion gas is mixed with the forced air flow at the outlet 12, and a third flow path branching from the first path supplying air to the combustion chamber through opening 66, the blower producing a flow of air directly along the by-pass path, and a substantial part of the flow in the third path being induced by the combustion in the chamber 10. The air supplied by the blower is drawn in from the outside atmosphere through a duct passing through the wall, the exhaust gases and surplus air from outlet 12 passes through a duct to the outside atmosphere. By having a forced circulation between inlet and outlet, from which combustion air is drawn by induction, the system is unaffected by fluctuations of wind pressure &c. A fan 34 is provided for producing a flow of air over the surface of the combustion chamber which is heated and expelled through louvres 36. It may be moistened by passing over a soaked pad 38. In a modification (Fig. 6, not shown), the first inlet 64 and the first outlet may be in line. The heater is gas-fired. The blower 6 is switched on by turning a knob 2 anticlockwise by 90 degrees. After about 7 sees., a lamp 14 lights and a switch 15 closes. A switch 17 is also closed in response to an air pressure sensor which detects operation of the blower 6. Valve 18 then opens. On depressing knob 2, gas is supplied to a pilot burner 20 and an electric arc is produced to ignite the gas. A valve 24 is opened in response to a temperature sensor 22 heated by the pilot flame sensing a predetermined temperature. When the knob 2 is turned anticlockwise by a further 90 degrees, gas is supplied to the or each main burner 26<SP>1</SP>, 2611. A further valve 28 in series with burner 26<SP>11</SP> is electrically connected in series with a manually operable switch 30 and a room thermostat which is set by a knob 32.
