Abstract
893,739. Oil-fired heat generators. COLT VENTILATION Ltd. April 29, 1960 [May 4, 1959], No. 15247/59. Class 51 (1). An oil-fired heater comprises a cylindrical combustion chamber 1 with tapering ends 7, 11, surrounded by concentric sleeves 3, 4 forming annular air passages 5, 6. The top of the outer sleeve 4 is connected to the upper part of the combustion chamber and the lower end is closed save for an inlet 9 for combustion air under pressure. The inner sleeve 3 is open at the top and closed at the bottom by an annular plate 13 continuous with a plate 10 closing the bottom of a cylindrical collar 12 connected to the tapered lower part 11 of the combustion chamber. A pressure fuel jet 16 and igniters 17 are mounted within the collar 12, which has vaned primary air inlets 15, so that the air is supplied with a swirl. Holes 11a in the tapered part of the combustion chamber provide further air, and air inlets 14 in the upper part of the chamber are vaned to swirl the secondary air supply in the opposite sense to the primary air. The air passes up the outer annular passage and down the inner passage, vanes 18 assisting in the preheating of the air. A tapered rim 21 helps control the flame issuing from the collar 12, and flame detectors may be mounted in the lower part 20 of the outer air supply passage.
