Abstract

1,006,211. Supplying air to burners. HAMWORTHY ENGINEERING Ltd. Sept. 29, 1961 [Nov. 9, 1960], No. 38445/60. Heading F4T. An air register for supplying combustion air to an oil burner set in a furnace wall 5 comprises a primary and secondary air control device 12, 15 shielded from the furnace heat by two parts 16, 17 of the register which are formed of or filled with refractory material and coaxially mounted around an oil spray carrier tube 1. The primary air control device 12 comprises radial vanes set in an enlarged part 11 of the primary air supply passage 9 formed between the part 16 and the carrier tube 1. The secondary air control device 15 comprises radial vanes mounted upstream of a conical passage 10 formed between the parts 16, 17, the latter being disposed between an outer casing 3 of the air register and the furnace wall 5. The carrier tube 1 is removable and has a sprayer head 2 outside the air register. The primary air control assembly is axially movable to control the secondary air supply by varying the size of passage 10 which is effected by attaching the assembly to the carrier tube 1. The upstream end of the register is provided with an air damper 8. The burner is completed by an igniter 19, a sight glass 18 and a lighting-up door mounted in the rear end 23 of the air register. A plurality of or singular air register is fed with air from a wind box, part of which is shown at 22.
