794,702. Combustion apparatus; flame detection. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. Sept. 26, 1956 [Sept. 26, 1955], No. 29381/56. Class 51 (1). [Also in Group XL (b)] In combustion apparatus having a plurality of burners each has an associated flame detector so arranged that its line of sight intersects a flame issuing from the burner or its igniter and terminates at the peripheral wall of the burner port. In Fig. 2 two burners 25 of a multipleburner installation are shown lying horizontally in the air space between the furnace wall 12 and a casing 13. Each burner has an associated port 15, air register 14 and electrode-type igniter 47. Flame detector tubes 52 are arranged as shown with radiation sensitive flame detector elements 50 at their outer ends. Should the igniter and/or burner flame fail the detector, through suitable known controls, interrupts the burner fuel supply. Each burner, Fig. 1, is of the multiple-burner type arranged for pulverized fuel or oil firing and comprising a pulverized fuel burner 20 having a concentrically disposed oil burner 40. The latter is associated with a regulating pipe 31 which is slidable horizontally and carries an impeller 32. The pipe is lockable in its adjusted position. The burner 40 comprises an atomizer including a distance-piece extending through pipe 31, an atomizer tip 42 and a quick fuel coupling assembly.
