Abstract

887,453. Burners. BABCOCK & WILCOX CO. Sept. 6, 1960 [Sept. 8, 1959], No. 30680/60. Class 75(1) A gas burner for use in conjunction with an oil burner 40 or a pulverized fuel burner comprises a circular manifold 32 disposed in an annular plenum chamber 31 between an air register 19 and a furnace wall 10 and having spuds 34 extending radially inwards through apertures 30D in a wall 30 to discharge gas into the stream of air from the air register 19. Each spud 34 comprises a flat rectangular end face 36 and two pairs of slanting side faces. Lugs 53 on the spud enable the spud to be screwed into the manifold 30 using a tool. The plenum chamber has air entrance holes 48 in its outer wall 22. The air register comprises pivoted control vanes 29 adjusted equally by manual or automatic means and adapted to cause the air to whirl. The oil burner 40 comprises'an axially movable fuel pipe 41, an atomizer 44 and an impeller 45. The burner is mounted on the furnace wall by the outer wall 22 of the plenum chamber fitting into a circular flange 23 on the furnace wall. Tubes 46, 47 provide observation means and a housing for an igniter.
