611,776. Pulverised-fuel burners. PEABODY, Ltd. (Peabody Engineering Corporation). May 8, 1946. No. 13873. [Class 75 (i)] In a pulverised-fuel burner, secondary fluid (air) from a wind box or plenum chamber 12, the flow of which is controlled by an air register 15<1>, passes through an adjustable conical member 60, into a chamber 26 tangentrally supplied by means of a duct 30, with pulverulent fuel suspended in a primary fluid (air). A side wall 28 of the chamber 26 extends outwardly from and entirely round the inner end of a burner tube 35 so that the fuel can flow completely round the chamber 26 before entering the burner tube 35. An annular space 47 between the burner tube 35 and a cylindrical wall 45 is tangentrally fed with a tertiary fluid (air) from the wind box 12 by ducts having adjustable dampers and is provided with outlet vanes 61 adjustable through 180 deg. to control the rotation of the tertiary fluid. The tertiary fluid is admitted to the burner throat through a passage 41 which is adjusted by means of a ring 34 adjustably secured to the end of the burner tube 35. A diffuser 23 is adjustably positioned on the outer end of a pipe 21 which passes centrally through the burner and through which a liquid fuel atomizer barrel is temporarily inserted for igniting the burner.
