Abstract
1,034,826. A method of, and a burner for, burning fluent fuel; boiler furnaces. BABCOCK & WILCOX CO. May 15, 1963 [May 15, 1962], No. 19233/63. Headings F4B and F4T. A method of, and a burner 10 for, burning gaseous, liquid and pulverulent fuel, wherein the burner 10 comprises a pair of cells 11, Fig. 2 (not shown), installed in a tubular watercooled furnace wall 12 and each comprising a rectangular main air port 13, two concentric cylinders 35A, 35B, Fig. 3 (not shown), forming a gas passage 35, two elongated secondary air ports 14 directing air on to the burning fuel and main air streams emerging from both cells 11. A pulverized coal pipe 36 is supported by radial struts 38 from the cylinder 35A so that air can pass between the pipe 36 and the cylinder 35A. A coal impeller 41 is secured to a movable tube 42 supported by radial struts within the pipe 36. Liquid fuel is supplied to an atomizer barrel inside the tube 42. Baffles 18 are attached via plates 20 to vertical sides 15B of a burner housing 15, and dampers 25 are provided to control the air supply. In another embodiment, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), a plurality of spuds 45 replaces the cylinders 35A, 35B, and the forward ends of the spuds are sloped and orificed. In Fig. 6 (not shown), a furnace 47 of a vapour generating unit, includes burners 49 installed in staggered pattern in two opposite walls so that the flames thereof interlace.
