Abstract

1,155,846. Furnaces. FOSTER WHEELER Ltd. 23 Sept., 1966 [29 Sept., 1965], No. 41460/65. Heading F4B. A furnace 40 having a pair of opposing walls in each of which are positioned, substantially normal to the wall in which they are located, one or more horizontal rows of burners 28, the rows of burners in the opposing walls being vertically staggered so that the vertical distance between adjacent rows in opposite walls is at least equal to half the normal spacing between the individual burners in each row and so that no two burners are in axial alignment. The highest row of burners may as shown be on the side of a nose 17 to bias the flow of combustion gases so that they will flow more evenly from the furnace outlet. A steam boiler embodying this furnace may be provided with a superheater 18, reheater 20 and economizer 22.
