Abstract
1,262,932. Sectional boilers. D. FERROLI [trading as FERROLI-GAS S.n.c.]. 15 April, 1969, No. 19148/69. Heading F4A. In a sectional boiler, e.g. for gas-fired central heating, in which each section is a flattened hollow body the larger faces of which form, with the larger faces of adjacent sections, flue gas passages, these faces are of undulated horizontal cross-section, and horizontal fins are disposed at alternated levels on the two larger faces of each section so that each passage is correspondingly undulated in vertical cross-section. Each section comprises a water passage 13, Fig. 6, extending between an inlet sleeve 10, Figs. 5 and 6, and an outlet sleeve 12, the inlet sleeve being integral with a hollow extension 11 which, together with an opposed shorter extension 14, encloses a combustion space 15. The transversely extending faces 19, 20, Fig. 4, of the sections are corrugated in horizontal cross-section and have horizontal fins 22, 23 disposed at alternated levels to cause the flue gases ascending through the space 21 between each pair of adjacent sections to take the tortuous path shown in Fig. 6, whereby heat exchange is promoted. The faces 19, 20 of each element diverge from one another from bottom to top to provide a corresponding decrease from bottom to top of the cross-sectional area of the space 21 to compensate for the contraction of the flue gases due to loss of heat.
