Abstract
1,263,845. Water boiler. GUSTAV OSPELT HOVALWERK A.G. 3 July, 1970 [4 July, 1969; 7 Nov., 1969], No. 32471/70. Heading F4A. In a liquid fuel or gas-fired water boiler the burner 3 projects into combustion chamber 2 which is surrounded by water-jacket 1. The combustion gases flow down to an outlet flue 5 via annular passage 4 formed between inner wall 7 of an extension 8 of the water jacket 1 and the outer corrugated wall 6 of an inner water chamber 11 connected to water jacket 1, 8. The corrugations which may be annular or helical form alternate narrower and wider portions along the path of the flue gases causing change of speed and direction, thus increasing the heat transfer to the walls 6, 7. The hollow space 9 within water chamber 11, which is sealed at the top by wall 10 and is open to flue 5, damps pressure variations in the flue gases and reduces emission of unwanted noises. A further annular flue passage may be provided within the inner water chamber 11. In a modification (Fig. 1, not shown), the inner water chamber 11 is omitted and in a further modification (Fig. 3) the corrugated wall 6 is replaced by a stack of cast iron rings (70) having annular flanges forming the alternate narrow and wide portions of the annular passage 12. The rings are bolted together and closed at the top by a transverse wall (120).
