Abstract
A boiler for heating water or other liquid comprises annular tank 12 having an inlet 28 and an outlet 30 for the liquid, a shell 11 surrounding the tank 12 and forming an outer chamber 18 around the outside of the tank and a pressure burner 31 which directs hot combustion gases into an inner chamber 16, which is bounded by the inner wall 20 of the tank, whence the gases are directed by the shell 11 through the outer chamber 18. The inner chamber 16 is provided with a series of arrays of fins 36, 37 which project inwards from the inner wall 20 and form a tortuous path for the gases through the inner chamber 16 and the outer chamber 18 has means forming longitudinal passages 57, 58, alternate passages communicating with the plenum 43, the remainder with the exhaust plenum 49, and the means has off-set holes in each radial wall which jet gases on to the confronting radial wall. <IMAGE>
