Abstract

685,826. Vapour burners. DOWLESS, W. B. Aug. 1, 1951 [June 28, 1951], No. 18269/51. Class 75(i) A vapour burner for use in a tobacco curing plant comprises a cylindrical housing having upper and lower semi-cylindrical members 21, 22, Fig. 4, provided with co-operating ears 23, 24 by which they are secured together by fastening means 25, a hollow disc-shaped fuel nozzle 32 seated on a boss 30 upstanding from the lower member and formed with upwardly and outwardly directed discharge openings 36, the nozzle being greater in diameter than the boss and having a downwardly extending marginal lead 41 for directing liquid fuel into an annular channel 43 surrounding the boss 30, and an air intake pipe 46 extending through the member 21 in alignment with and terminating above the nozzle 32. Initially the fuel flows into the channel 43 and is ignited through an opening 61, and when the nozzle 32 is heated .sufficiently to vaporize the liquid fuel supplied thereto flames are directed from the openings 36. The heated air and combustion gases are passed through a pipe 12 disposed within a tobacco curing chamber, within which may be disposed two burners the outlet pipes 12 of which are connected to a common exhaust chimney.
