[Class 64 (i)] [Also in Group XI] In an apparatus for heating buildings comprising an inner casing formed as a venturi throat and fitted with means for heating a primary air current passing therethrough, and an outer casing surrounding the inner casing such that a secondary air current heated by the inner casing is induced to flow between the inner and outer casings, the lower and upper parts of the inner casing are so formed and the air inlet and outlet are so disposed relatively to a heating element located in each of said parts that radiant heat from the elements passes directly and is reflected indirectly through the air inlet and outlet in addition to heating the primary air current passing through the inner casing. The inner casing 2 has its front and rear walls shaped to a venturi throat 3 across which is disposed an electric heating element 4 which radiates heat indirectly by reflection from the casing at 5 and directly through air-inlet 6, a second heating element 9 emitting heat directly through air outlet 8 and indirectly by reflection from the casing at 7. The heated casing at 3 heats the primary air stream, and a separate air flow outside the heated casing passes through the space 13 from inlets 15, 16, to outlets 17, 18. A damper 21 controls the amount of fresh air passing in at inlet 19 to mix with re-circulated air. A portable cabinet type of apparatus is also described and both types may employ gas heaters.
